How will this darling of the Republican party be silenced? Bribe with some half-assed reform? Character assassination on Fox? Strong arm the local, party branch and have him deselected? I doubt that the Newt-folk will ever see these two statements juxtaposed. Hard to imagine any actual comeuppance for an artful dodger so experienced in smoke & mirrors as to be the author of, The Contract ~~With~~ On America (also - a handbook on precisely how to confound any earnest debate: with a memorized string of non sequiturs. Yes, he really Did create this nasty little pamphlet, to be handed out to the Right-people. A while back.) Real answer: no telling! what/if anything shall be made of these two pontifications, a few months apart. Did I mention, "we're fucked" .. generally?

It's the same pattern with every single other defection - they just pretend that he doesn't exist. As long as these defections leak slowly, instead of a massive burst, nobody notices. When somebody asks you to trade your freedoms for security, it isn't your* security they're talking about.*
