Article to go with this idiocy
[link|http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-christians10apr10,0,6204444.story?coll=la-story-footer|LA Times] The Rev. Rick Scarborough, a leading evangelical, frames the movement as the civil rights struggle of the 21st century. "Christians," he said, "are going to have to take a stand for the right to be Christian." Notice the casual bias. It's not freedome of speech or religion. It is her right to be Christian. Critics dismiss such talk as a right-wing fundraising ploy. "They're trying to develop a persecution complex," said Jeremy Gunn, director of the American Civil Liberties Union's Program on Freedom of Religion and Belief. Trying to develop? He hasn't been paying attention. "What if a person felt their religious view was that African Americans shouldn't mingle with Caucasians, or that women shouldn't work?" asked Jon Davidson, legal director of the gay rights group Lambda Legal.
Christian activist Gregory S. Baylor responds to such criticism angrily. He says he supports policies that protect people from discrimination based on race and gender. But he draws a distinction that infuriates gay rights activists when he argues that sexual orientation is different \ufffd a lifestyle choice, not an inborn trait. Apparently he thinks a person's religion is an inborn trait. By equating homosexuality with race, Baylor said, tolerance policies put conservative evangelicals in the same category as racists. He predicts the government will one day revoke the tax-exempt status of churches that preach homosexuality is sinful or that refuse to hire gays and lesbians. He is right on the first. They do put them in the same category, and they do so correctly. His persecution complex is showing on the second, and it's obviously well developed. They will lose this suit. But I'm sure they will get a lot of press out of it along the way. Jay

Too bad the obvious comeback never works
But he draws a distinction that infuriates gay rights activists when he argues that sexual orientation is different \ufffd a lifestyle choice, not an inborn trait. And every time someone says that, I want to ask that person, "So you regularly find yourself attracted to other men, and it's only by conscious choice that you've never dated one?"

too bad common sense does not prevail
I know several gay people, a few openly, some not up for discussion. None of them would agressively insist on shoving their practices upon me and mine. Now I also say that I know evangelicals who know I enjoy a good natter on the bible vs beliefs. But they know better than to badger me on the subject. Now if the right reverend phelps would give some guy a blowjob I think the world might be a better place. thanx, bill

Isn't it 'oppressed'?
Considering the nature of the supposed victims, perhaps "Help! Help! I'm repressed!" is more appropriate.

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin? - Mark Renton, Trainspotting.

Maybe more like 'suppressed'
