New Help Desk turns 10!
Help Desk is celebrating its 10th anniversary. On March 31, 1996, a plucky young webzine covering the OS/2 software market published the first four Help Desk strips ever. And it's all gone downhill from there.

Now that I think of it, it was one of those early strips -- the one where I parodied Infoworld's decision to throw out the "Best OS" poll that OS/2 won because "it was obvious the data was tampered with, but we won't bother trying to prove it" that caused me to start hanging out in those old Infoworld forums...

Ah, nostalgia.

New BTW, I was reading the old stuff and noticed that.
I like the whole beginning. Especially the mocking of whats-her-name at IW at the time! Precious.

New Meant to mention after your last Old Skool strip
I know why the "real" strip was late. They had hands.

New Curse you, hands!
*shakes fist*

Blame this week on Jeff Darlington. :)

Few months back I was wondering in Keenspot forum what I should do to celebrate Help Desk's 10th anniversary, and he said "well I'd like to see you try hand-drawing your strips." Not really a workable solution these days (I've been diagnosed with essential tremor, and while it's not too bad at this point there's not much point in me trying to develop a skill that is going to go away in the near future) but I figured I'd try to put Inkscape to better use than I have been...

... what a pain in the ass. :)

New When he said "hand-drawn", I don't think he meant ...
... that the characters should have hands.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow

New Well, you see, there's a problem.
All comics were created at 72 dpi. Graphics in a book usually need to be at least 600 dpi, 300 at the very minimum. Also, the basic format of the comic makes it a little awkward as far as fitting it in a standard sized book goes.
