This is for a road intersecting a freeway, where the people on the road have traffic lights. From the wiki, this design apparently reduces the amount of red light time, improving throughput of the intersection: Additionally, the design can improve the efficiency of an interchange, as the lost time for various phases in the cycle can be redistributed as green time; there are only two clearance intervals (the time for traffic signals to change from green to yellow to red) instead of the six or more found in other interchange designs. Heck, I can see that working here in GR on about seven or so interchanges. Edit: Added a TinyURL for those with bustified browsers. The long one works for me, as does the TinyURL one. I tried on 4 different Computers, 3 different OS.
