Welcome to IWETHEY!

New It's not clear what you want.
For use in a gym, I'd think something like a video [link|http://www.apple.com/ipod/ipod.html|iPod] would be ideal. But I think it's very limited for playback. They claim 150 hours of video playback (320x240, 750 kbps) and 20 hour battery life (for music). I don't know how you'd get your shows on there - it's probably easy if you feel like giving Apple $1.99 an episode.

There are portable DVD players - [link|http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCategory.asp?SubCategory=491|newegg] has them starting at < $100.

A portable DVD player that also records? I haven't seen any.

HTH.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Handbrake and Lostify
I use [link|http://handbrake.m0k.org/|Handbrake] to transfer DVDs to my iPod. Lately I've been watching Season 1 of Northern Exposure on my lunch break.

The tags that denote "TV Show" cannot be set via iTunes. If it's not set then all the episodes clutter up the Movie Folder on the iPod. I use [link|http://home.comcast.net/~lowellstewart/lostify/|Lostify] to set the TV Show flag, Episode #, Season, and other info so that the episodes will appear under the iPod's TV Shows folder where they're nicely sorted into subfolders of Series then subfolders of Seasons.

New Excellent. :-)
New Handbrake Lite
This is a cut-down version of Handbrake that is specifically designed to transcode DVDs to iPod video files.

More of a one-click solution, if you wish.
