Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I don't think it is.
Apple doesn't want to get into the Windows PC market, because it can't compete there, and wouldn't want to even if it could. Look at what Dell and HPaq have to turn out in order to compete - systems pared to the bone, a just-in-time supply chain that would make your hair curl, and margins thinner than a fag paper. Not a fun place to be.

Apple doesn't sell PCs, it sells Macs. Macs don't run Windows. They run OS X. That's the deal, and that's what we suckers^Wusers pay the premium for. If Mac users wanted Windows, they could do it a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Office 2004 exists. That's enough to keep me "compatible" with Windows users. And, to be honest, it's much nicer than the Windows version.

New You didn't never mind.
I was answering the rhetorical question of whether Windows would run on the Intel Mac. Yeah, it was stupid. I was asleep at the time - honest...

I agree that it's not in Apple's interest - at least not at this time - to put OS X on a generic PC. Apple doesn't have the resources to make or promote drivers for generic PC hardware. It also needs its hardware sales to support its software business.

Now if someone could make a software ROM that simulated the Apple-specific bits, and provided the driver shims, then presumably OS X could run on a Dell. And that would be neat if it could be done with reasonable speed. But you can bet Apple would be all over them very quickly, for violation of copyright among other things.

Cheers,
Scott.
(Who is still hoping for a universal PC that can run Linux, OS X, Windows, and maybe even OS/2 simultaneously.)
