New DVD stuck in freeze mode
I'm trying to watch disc 2 of Titanic: Special Edition, and the screen has frozen and won't resume. I also can't seem to make it stop or go back to menu.

Any suggestions?

Would it hurt anything if I tried just turning the power off on the machine not using the remote?

New Nope, that would be my suggestion
When in doubt, reboot it. For a lot of stuff, that means powercycling it.

New I hit power off
Weirdly enough, it still stayed hung on the screen for awhile, and then it finally went away.

Trying again to watch it with commentary.

New Power buttons on all recent computers aren't.
They just signal the computer to do a software shutdown, a signal it may or may not obey depending on how it feels and whether it's busy. For a hard shutdown you have to hold the button in for 10 seconds to signal the power supply to turn off.

New Pull the plug out of the wall
that usually gets its attention.

New I thought about that
But the plug was behind the entertainment stand and really really hard to get to. So I tried the holding down on the power button, and that finally straightened it out.

Thanks,

Brenda

New Re: Power buttons on all recent computers aren't.
It wasn't actually a computer, it was a stand alone DVD player. But apparently that was still the problem, because I had to hold the power button in before it would clear the screen and restart.

Thanks, Andrew.

Would you not set your wheelchair for Warp Six and head for the hospital parking lot like a hunted thing just as fast as your skinny grey tires would carry you?
