New Font problems with FireFox / Mozilla
I've had sporadic font problems with Mozilla and Firefox for a long time. Sometimes the display would be drawn in the wrong font (italic instead of bold, or the wrong point size, etc.). This was most annoying when editing a post or a Web address when the cursor acted against a different size font than the display, but a refresh would fix it.

On the all-new freshly installed machine with FireFox updated to version 1.5 the problem became insufferable and refresh would more likely make it worse. I couldn't edit an address line even, I'd have to blank it and type a new address in without error. Restarting FireFox had no effect nor did rebooting OS/2. All other applications worked just fine all the time.

I installed InnoTek's Font Engine for OS/2 and have not had the slightest problem with FireFox since.

And what is truly impressive is you are running the latest FireFox browser on a version of OS/2 that didn't even have a native release of Netscape (yeah you could download a copy of Netscape 2.02 after it was released) when it was originally released let alone a version of Mozilla and hasn't had a freely available fixpack in 5-6 years.

Hey Jack, you still around? You think you might make it to Warpstock this year?

New I'd like to, but we'll see
the money situation is pretty dire right now, and to solve it means getting a job directly after graduation, which might preclude weekend trips.

On the plus side, I'm taking Compilers and Language Processors from Cordy at Queen's (one of the heavyweights in that field on this side of the border) so I'm anticipating being able to contribute to porting the oorexx interpreter after I'm done.

There are some problems I've discovered in the one we've got (not really bugs so much as design problems) and getting the new one ported over should make those Go Away.

Had a lot happen in the last year; I'll tell you about it sometime.

New Re: I'd like to, but we'll see
You could teach a class at Warpstock. And you wouldn't need a passport to attend this year. Is Windsor drivable for you?

New It's drivable, but I don't have a car
That said, it's about six or seven hours down the 401 from here, though that might be nine or ten if I'm in Montreal by the time it actually rolls around.

I wouldn't mind teaching a course, but I don't know what I'd teach. That said, the big issue is simply money; money for transportation, money for accomadations, and let's not forget eating and drinking.

I've been in university for most of the last four years, and by this time, money's a rare commodity for me.

New This April, except for one course I'll need for the degree
a second year stats course. I'm hoping to get it over the summer. The course was just straight up full when I tried to take it this year; seeing as it's required in all kinds of non-math specialties (like Computing) it's not that great a surprise that it was full.

Being a hard year this year; my S.O. and I broke up just before Christmas, and it's being hard on the kids. 'Course, the fact that one of my kids is severely mentally disabled doesn't help in the understanding factor.

Yep, the last couple of years have really sucked, all told.

New The problem seems to be . . .
. . that I can't get a later FixPack even paying for it. MySQL, among others, won't run without the 32-big TCP/IP stack and that seems to have been withdrawn from the market.

I think I've figured out how to finagle it off of an eCS CD, but I'm not going to risk doing that on a production machine.
