New No contradiction, merely lack of implication
In economist's terms, CPUs are not a [link|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfect_competition|competitive market]. There is lots of competition, but that competition has glaring imperfections. Due to that fact, the price set will not necessarily be close to anyone's costs. Furthermore given the dynamics of the CPU industry, costs are not so simple to figure out. (For a start you need to price in risk since CPU companies regularly make huge investments that only pay off after many years in a quickly changing market.)

Therefore my first and second statements did not contradict each other. There merely was no implication.

My wording wrongly indicated that there was implication. That's wrong. What is true, though, is that the principle behind why the first statement is true also is behind why the second is true.

Cheers,
Ben

New Dunno what to admire more;the sophistry or the condescension
Hey, mr Mathematician-PerlHacker, you don't pay too much attention to what the rest of us say when we talk about ourselves and what we do, do you?

Maybe you could explain big terms like competition and such in even smaller words for me... After all, I am only -- as I have mentioned here now and then -- an economist.

The paper is not a money maker. :)

T\ufffdbingen is also were you were born and is one of my daughter's adopted German town. She spent the junior year at the university there on an exchange program with UNC Chapel Hill. I drove through town during Gulf War in 1991 and the recall the "NO BLOOD FOR OIL!" (in German) signs put up by the students.

New BTW, Bill, that wasn't *quite* as funny as I thought.
Seeing as how, on a closer look, it seems it's the same guy.

He's just relocated from Tübingen to Mannheim, but is apparently still associated with the TÜ University.

but I'd forgotten about it.

He certainly doesn't say it very often (as broomberg pointed out) and I am not about to worry myself too much about the fact that I didn't remember it.

As for Google, if I tried to figure out what Christian did via Google I'd probably think that he was a [link|http://www.nctc.net/~hazard/conrad/ranger/|movie star].

New A) Search sucks; & B) "here" includes previous incarnations.
New So you're saying that...
you said this several years ago. And now you're pissed off at me because you think that I knew it and was being condescending to you.

Can you accept that I really didn't remember this fact about you? And accept that it is reasonable that I didn't remember? And accept that no condescension was intended?

Regards,
Ben
