They were talking about Brown's performance at the Katrina hearings, and the difficulty in finding someone to replace him at FEMA. "I, as a member of the media, owe him an apology for how quickly we jumped to form an opinion of him. It's amazing how quickly in these hearings he's gone from stupid frat boy to super administrator."
The more comes out, the more it seems that Brown was actually trying to do all the right things, and he couldn't get anyone to listen to him. He said he tried to bypass his bosses at DHS to deal directly with the president during the disaster. The administration has made it clear they will not tolerate the next FEMA director ignoring the chain of command. And they wonder why they can't find anyone willing to take the gig.
