New CD Writer
I would like advice-comments-experience about CD writers for Warp4 - FP15 and/or eCS - FP1.

1) What kind of connection to get? My current reader is a SCSI, and I still have slots available. Browsing at MicroCenter, it seemed like most writers on the shelf were USB and/or parallel machines. An article in OS2/e-Zine said the SCSI was much preferable, but it looks like I would have to really hunt to find one. Also, any recommendations about specific burners? Prices seem to range from $79 to $500 - surely there must be some reason for the wide range.

2) Software. The same e-zine article reviewed several different software/freeware packages, and from what was said they would seem to fit my needs -- occasional backing up or a CD for data transfer purposes; no MP3 or .wav or any such nonsense. Any experience with a particular package that you would recommend/warn away from?

As I said, all opinions are welcome.

New Yamaha and RSJ
I did a lot of research and settled on a [link|http://www.yamaha.com/cgi-win/webcgi.exe/DsplyModel/?gHDR00007CRW4416S|Yamaha 4416S] (S = SCSI) and have been very pleased with it. My work also purchased one based on my research. That was a while ago, I'm pretty sure 4x4x16 is no longer considered the fastest in burner technology :-)

I use [link|http://www.rsj.de|RSJ] and have been very pleased with it. I don't think the freeware package existed when I got my burner, or maybe they weren't far enough along to be useful.

New Re: CD Writer
Like Darrell I have had a Yamaha 4416S(actually the external 4416SX model) working with RSJ for a long time. There is an article on it in the VOICE Newsletter, but this model is so old at this point there's not much point in reading it.

Now it seems that IDE drives are working well under OS/2, so a SCSI drive isn't a requirement like it once was. There will be a review of an IDE 24X10X40 CDRW drive (Teac CD-W524E) in the upcoming February issue of the VOICE Newsletter. According to this review(written by Don Eitner) this drive is really fast and works well with Audio/Data-CD-Creator and CDRecord/2 (freeware) under OS/2.

Review will be out February 1st.
