My wife has a dual 2.0 GHz PowerMac G5 at home, and a dual 1.2 GHz PowerMac G4 desktop at work.
Stick with the tried-and-true G5 stuff for a while and enjoy the speed. You can put much more RAM in the G5 (8 GB?) so it should have a very long life. 1st generation machines (of any type) often don't have as much life as one would like. You also won't have to wait for Adobe and others to put out the x86 Mac versions that you need.
My $0.02. Enjoy the choice! :-)
Cheers,
Scott.
