Welcome to IWETHEY!

New New furnace to be installed tomorrow
So the repair guy looks at my burner and makes one of those amazed noises.
I explain to him about the water dumping down into it.
He said, Normally, that would be pretty bad, but there was not much more damage you could do do to this furnace.
There is a pile of rust covering most of the burners.
So the only area that the flame can get out is not under the heat exchange.
So the gas pressure is very high, on the very front, and non-existant anywhere else.
So when we test it, we see that flames shoot out the front and curling up under the electronics.
I accepted that there was nothing left to do with this one.
Especially when a new one is $1,400.
Installed.
Goodman, 90K BTU, 80%.
You gotta figure my current one was running 25% in the shape it was in.
This will pay for itself in 2 years.
New Good. Luck with it!
New If you don't have Air Conditioning...
NOW is the best time to get it.

Labor is the most expensive part. We had a failure, got the AC installed at the same time. Save ~ $1K total cost.

Freedom is not FREE.
Yeah, but 10s of Trillions of US Dollars?

New Already have it.
So the choice is replace a working one iwth a new one, or leave this in place.
Note: It does not work THAT good, but cash is tight right now.
New If it's an older AC unit you will make up the cost.
Newer AC units are a lot more efficient than ones 20 years older. You'd be better to swap out both at the same time. I did that in my last house and never regretted it.
New Discussion is over
I have the exact amount I need in my pocket to pay the guy.
He is showing up at 8AM with the furnace.

Yes, I KNOW it makes sense to get the new one.
And in 6 months I probably will.
And if it costs me another $100 then because I did not do both at the same time, that is fine.
New agreed, its winter time, no point in sinking money into A/C
trying to limp my own A/C for one more year, then it will be roof/AC and deck rehab in 2007. Hope the older boys up to a lot of heavy labor :-)
thanx,
bill

New All done
One of these:

There was about 30 pounds of rust dust in the old one. We beat it for a while to shake it out, and then swept it up.

I helped hump up the old one on the steps. No problem.

Warm.

Oooohh.

Aaahhh.

The air it is blowing is definitely a LOT hotter than my old one.
