Welcome to IWETHEY!

New I saw some of it when it was on telly here.
Unfortunately, it was all I could do to keep up with the new Doctor Who, so trying to keep track of Battlestar Galactica as well was just not possible.

But what I saw looked fa-a-antastic. 'Gritty' is a good word to describe it. 'Realistic' is another. If this had come out during Star Trek's heyday, BSG would have wiped the floor with ST. And I'm nominally a ST fan!

New Agreed.
I really want to watch it on a large television; I've just got a 27" screen here and it doesn't do the show justice. I love the documentary style used for the fight scenes, but with the small screen they're a bit too dark to see what's really going on.

The realism is amazing. There's a lot more to the show than flying spaceships. Things like a few scenes in the first episode where the new President is keeping track of how many humans are still living on a dry-erase board, or the logistic problems of reopening a moth-balled battlestar ("that used to be the port landing bay, but I think it's a gift shop now"). A lot of thought was put into what would really happen, much more so than in the original.
