Dozens of people are reported to have been killed in a stampede during a symbolic stoning ritual at the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
Government officials said the number of people killed near Mecca was unknown, but unnamed officials told news agencies more than 100 were dead.
No precicse death count yet, but it looks like it was fairly substantial. Due to the limited area and press of people through the area, stampedes at the ritual stoning are a regular event, and this one doesn't even come close to being the worst. The worst killed nearly 1,500 people.
Islam may be the first religion in the world that has reached the limit on the number of members it can have due to technical restrictions on how many can do the holy pilgramage at once.
