Italian priest ordered to prove Jesus existed by court
[link|http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,13509-1967413,00.html#cid=OTC-RSS&attr=World|Times Online] AN ITALIAN judge has ordered a priest to appear in court this month to prove that Jesus Christ existed. This looks to be fairly insane. I could see how this could get dragged into court during some libel case, but not here. It would appear that a militant atheist is actually trying to charge the Roman Catholic Church with fraud. Apparently "abuse of popular credulity" is a crime under Italian law. But obviously not normally enforced, otherwise it would bar almost all religion, government and more of science that anybody would like to admit. Jay

I don't know, this might be legit
I'm basing my opinion on this: Signor Cascioli, author of a book called The Fable of Christ, began legal proceedings against Father Righi three years ago after the priest denounced Signor Cascioli in the parish newsletter for questioning Christ\ufffds historical existence. If you're going to use a position of authority to denounce me, you better believe I'm going to challenge you to prove what you say. And FWIW I think "abuse of popular credulity" sounds like it was passed specifically to deal with situations like this. Scary that it could pass in Italy but not here.

thats an easy one,
haul the plaintiff before the inquisition and put him to the question, tie him up throw him into the pond, if he drowns, christ is real if he does not burn him at the stake for being a sorcerer. thanx, bill
