Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Well. I'd call that "Worst of 2005" a really crappy one.
Lack of Residual Value ranks as the most important feature of those cars. 2 stars for the Lancer on side impact... What is the percentage of 90 degree side impacts, as those are the only ones considered by them.

2 stars for a DIRECT Front Door T-BONE.

I am not defending the rating or bashing it. I am pointing out it seems that enitre list is centered on Residual value, doesn't that make the rating for the Lancer seem out of place?

I wonder what the residual value after 5 years is for a Lancer?

Yes, they Cherry picked. They took the "worst" ratings from several "Authorities" and ran the worst single scores they could find.

For the NHSTA ratings, you should really look at the whole score. There are quite a few worse than the Lancer, that sell in much higher quantity.

As for Residual Value determintations... that is speculated. If you look closely you'll see that took the cookie cutter combos by storm. Why are cookie cutters not good on residuals... simple cookie cutter vehicles are made for that reason. "Everyonr" wants one, but not in five years.

Hey, let's look at his [link|http://www.forbes.com/fdc/bios/new/danlienert.html|Contact info]. What strikes you as odd?

So what, "a" senior editor just means he is one of the last ones hanging around, when they clean house.

New Truth be told...
The only moving accident I've ever been in was a direct front door t-bone. :-P

Totalled the guy's car, too. Actually, it was his daughter's new car...

And the only accident I've actually watched occur (not involved in) was the same type. Minivan pulled out of a McDonald's and stopped in the wrong place. Crunch.

FWIW.

New Yep, my biggie
was barreling down Telegraph road near 10 mile doing about 50+ when woman decided she could cross to the median before I got there. She was wrong - T-Bone to her driver's door at probably 45+mph (I locked em up but there wasn't much time/distance to change the speed any).

Best situation ensued, I was belted, she was not (which I think might have saved her life given door crumple and her landing in the passenger side footwell.

New Side impacts are very common.
Well, over here they are.

The two most common kinds of collisions in the UK (and I don't expect that it's all that different in wrong-side-of-the-road-ia) are:

* Rear enders
* One vehicle cutting across another's priority (read: pulling straight out of a junction into the side of a vehicle, but also accounts for accidents on roundabouts)

Interestingly, they don't mention the Ford F150 truck. This has made a rather muted entrance onto the UK market, mainly due to its appalling fuel economy (when you're paying nearly a quid a litre, you care a very great deal about this), its dismal handling [0], and its alarming habit of breaking its occupants legs in relatively slow front impacts. It's also arse-ugly, but then it's a Ford.

In summary, you don't need to get ventilated because your car scored crappily.

Side impact safety is only one aspect of the safety package.

As to your residual value, here's the numbers on a UK-spec 2000 GSR, from [link|http://www.parkers.co.uk|http://www.parkers.co.uk] :

Average mileage: 50,000 miles
Cost New ('00) 30995
Franchised Dealer 11590
Independent Dealer 10925
Private Good 10450
Private Poor 8455
Part Exchange 9690

So about 30% left. Which is about par for the course for a car of that size/speed/age.
[0] Jeremy Clarkson summed up the F150 thusly: "And they have the Ford F-150 Lightning pick-up truck: 0-60mph in a millionth of a second. Enough space in the back for a dead bear. And on a challenging road about as much fun as a wasabi enema."

New Anyone driving an F-150 Lightning ...
... wouldn't be challenging anyone anywhere but on a straight road.

Or by "challenging road" did you mean that the road itself presented a challenge? Well that's completely different.

Oh, and the T-bone is more likely the result of someone trning left (or right in wrong-side-annia) in front of oncoming traffic. So you typically have the entire passenger side to use as a crumple zone.

New Vitirol based on the List conditions...
But the fact the Lancer (yes my fav) did so poorly...

In any case, the list is a bad list by any measure. Bad for being on it... but badly based on cherry picking from multiple other "lists" and "references" even before confirmation was bestowed upon the info gleaned from websites.

The contact picture if anything, is purely funny as hell. The 23 year old, in front of a Bentley(?) Limo. What 23 year old do you know that would elect to be photographed like that? 0.

Nuff on this.
