I am looking into a proximity authentication system.
Our corporate rules state that PCs must go into
screen saver, requiring a password, whenever left
alone.
We have factory floor PCs that material handlers
have to use. They share a login since they all use
the same app, and do not need to switch between people.
But it is constantly timing out, which causes them
to relogin MANY times a day.
I want to be able to allow them to carry a badge that
identifies them, and run some application on the PC that
will allow them back in.
This company claims to have the solutions, but it
is insecure.

Their HID card reader simply stuffs the card ID into the
password field. And everyone knows what the card id id.
Dumb.
But stylistically, the access method makes sense.
A sonar sensor can tell when someone is near the computer,
and will lock it when people walk away. But we still need
something a bit more secure for the actual authentication.
Any ideas?
