A few short weeks ago I had the good fortune to see Topol playing in Fiddler On The Roof, at the really-quite-lovely [link|http://www.capitoltheatre.com.au/index1.htm|Capitol Theatre], Sydney. For a man in his 70s... you wouldn't know it. He still has a fantastic voice, and prances about like a young thing. He fully deserved the standing ovation he was given at the end of the performance.
Still, he wasn't the only cast member - everyone else did a splendid job, including Maggie Kirkpatrick as the matchmaker (who, for our UK friends, played 'The Freak' in Prisoner Cell Block H...)
I knew very little of this show before I went to see it, so was interested in the story. "If I were a rich man" was the only song I recognised, but there plenty of other great ones in there - I think "Tradition" would be my favourite.
Anyways, great show, great performances, good songs - do go see it sometime if you get the chance. I'll have to see the movie now, see how it compares...
