one bright note, put clinics in their stores
a fresh out of med school doc, pay him 17.50 hr part time, hire 3. Young docs seeking second jobs and hacks could do a lot of clinical scut work for the employees at low cost. This could be supplemented by servicing the lowhanging fruit rather cheaply. Applying their business model to the medical field, they do it for vision currently, why not move into bloody noses, colds and hemmaroids.

Your reasons sound okay. But note theirs: cut down on emergency room visits. Do that many people get hurt each day that they can make significant savings by having on-site triage?

Not quantity, but WHEN
After work, clinic is closed... Go to ER.
Local Target Greatland has a "minute clinic" already. For the "colds, sore throats, bumps and bruises, and other minor ailments". No appointment needed.
I'd love to cut down on my ER/UC runs for my wife. She never calls during work to complain, but waits until after I've been home for a couple of hours. By then, if she needs to be seen, it's a trip to the ER, again. (ER staff knows her by name)
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail ... but, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Damn...that was fun!"

And ER *is* the "Doctor's Office" for many.
Many of our vaunted physicians just can't treat patients for the lowly sums they are awarded by Medicaid. Many poor and working poor people take their children to the ER for ear aches because the frickin' physician class *refuses* to see their kids once they find out they're on Medicaid.
That could be fixed immediately, of course, if a federal law stated that a physician loses his license lifetime for refusing to treat a patient because of a patient's inability to pay him/her on a scale that allows them to maintain their beach house in CA or FL, the ski chalet in Aspen their kids private schools, their club memberships, etc. But that would be a sea change - no longer would it be the case that one pursued an MD to make a few million; the motivation would be to actually help people. For vast majority in that field, that would be completely intolerable.

Won't work at that price point
Until a doctor has a medical license, they cannnot practice medicine.
Once a doctor has a medical license there is plenty of "moonlighting" temp work available. Depending on what you're studying to be, this generally pays in the range $60-100/hour.
If you are trying to avoid going to residency but have a license, HMOs will hire you full-time for, I think, closer to $40-50/hour. They also provide benefits.
In short the supply of doctors who legally can practice is so low that you can't treat them that badly.
If Walmart wanted to do what you suggest, they would need to focus on things which a nurse or physician's assistant can do, not an MD.

One "entry-level" job seems to be urgent care

Maybe I was thinking PA
ws in an urgent care joint paid cash $50 for the visit, Guy I thought he said he was a doc told me he was working for $17.50 an hr to pay bills (now I remember) he was waiting for his Alaska License to come in. He was Licensed in Washington State. Must have been a PA position. Wrapping sprains and handing out zpak's is about right for a PA.
