It's a video iPod.
Apple Computer Inc. on Wednesday unveiled a version of its market-leading iPod that also plays video, a long-rumored product that could further spark sales of the popular devices.
The video iPod has a 2.5 inch screen and comes with 30 or 60 gigabyte memory. It will be priced at $299 and $399, respectively, the company said at a news event in Silicon Valley. [link|http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/051012/applecomputer_imac.html?.v=4|Link].

Also a new iMac
[link|http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/051012/sfw074.html?.v=24|http://biz.yahoo.com...sfw074.html?.v=24] It's thinner, faster, and has built in iSight camera. G5 still, not an Intel chip. Oh, and there's this: The new iMac G5 includes Apple's Mighty Mouse, featuring up to four programmable buttons and an ingenious Scroll Ball that lets users scroll in any direction -- vertically, horizontally and even diagonally. For whoever it was that always bitched that Apples only come with a one-button mouse (yendor?) While the mighty mouse has been out for awhile now, this is the first I've read that it's bundled with a new computer.

Re: It's a video iPod.
Well, the smart thing was the agreement with Disney for CONTENT. Now you can use it for more than just Rocketboom.

Re: It's a video iPod.
No non-video iPod. This has replaced it. $299 for 30Gb model, $399 for 60Gb model.

The Register: Media Center killer, or shoulder-shrug?
[link|http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/10/13/video_ipod_analysis/|http://www.theregist...eo_ipod_analysis/] So on Wednesday he unveiled a desktop computer with a remote control; iPods that can play video; and an updated iTunes Music Store that will sell you videos, and if you live in the US, TV shows.
Three things, but five big issues to be dealt with, in turn: 1) Crippled is the new flexible! 2) Low-quality and portable? That must beat actually being good, right? 3) Paid-for is the new free. 4) We've never heard of this "Yoorp" of which you speak. 5) No, the phrase "exchange rate" means nothing to me.

Just got one
Someone at work won a 30GB model at a vendor's Xmas party. He never used it and sold it to someone in his department a couple weeks ago. I was helping that guy learn how to use it when he decided he need the money for something else, so I bought it from him for $200.
The front of it is the same dimensions as my 3rd Gen 20GB iPod. It's quite a bit thinner - 11 mm vs 15 mm. It's noticeably lighter as well.
The screen quality is excellent. I was suprised at how easy it is to read subtitles in videos considering how small the display is. I've put a few music videos on it from iTunes store, plus some Scissor Sisters and Aqua videos I converted from DVD using [link|http://handbrake.m0k.org/|Handbrake]. I've also converted TRON and have The Young Ones, Aeon Flux and Depeche Mode in queue.
I'm still using the old one for the car as my iTrip doesn't work with new iPod - the remote control connector which powers the iTrip is gone on the new models. There's a new iTrip that connects to the dock connector, but I plan to get something like the [link|http://www.neocaraudio.com/prod-ion.html|Neo iON] and leave the old iPod in the car all the time.

got one, didn't like it
I couldn't get the air bubbles out which made the display look crappy.
I got a case that should work well to protect the screen - it has a flap that keeps it covered.
