New Form. Follows. Function.
Must. Resist. Shouting. "Form follows function!" Must. Resist. Smashing. Stupid. Sloped. Bookshelves.
Matthew Greet

Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?
- Mark Renton, Trainspotting.
New Whachyoo talkin bout, Willis?
No bookends needed.

New Remove a book, gap disappears, annoying to put it back.
Also, on a sloped shelf, the innermost book ends up being flat with the upright but its bottom is not flat with the shelf. The weight is on one of the covers or a few pages next to it whereas the opposite side is hanging free. This puts shear (I think) on the spine. I'm a pedant who likes books. These things bother me.

Must. Remember. It's. Art. Not. Engineering.

New Good point about the uneven wear
That could be fixed by sloping all the shelves at the same angle. Have the outer frame be the only vertical/horizontal pieces. Then the only problem spots are against the rightmost (in the current picture) ends. Most of the books I have, though, I'd be comfortable with the risk.

Besides, it looks freaking cool.
