What am I dared to do, exactly?
Join an obvious nutcase ("In the current issue of my premium, online, intelligence newsletter, G2 Bulletin, author Paul Williams recounts in extravagant detail how al-Qaida operatives have already used the open Mexican border not only to sneak operatives into the country but to smuggle in nuclear weapons with the help of the MS-13 (Mara Salvatrucha) street gang." —ayup) in demanding Bush's impeachment because he hasn't sufficiently stroked the policy fetishes of Pat Buchanan and the nativist crowd?
Regarding impeachment, the institutional tension that used to exist between 1600 Pennsylvania and Capitol Hill—the sort of thing that allowed the GOP party elders to confront Nixon and tell him it was time to pack—is all but gone now. CBS could air a videotape of Dubya sodomizing and strangling whatserface, the missing white teenybopper in Aruba, and the House Judiciary Committee wouldn't emit a peep.
Anyway, as the grandson of a man who waded across the Rio Grande 89 years ago to start his residence in El Norte, it would ill behoove me to bang the immigration drum.

The only realistic scenario of a recount was a full one.
In every investigation done that considered a full recount, Gore won. It was by a bare minimum of votes assuredly, but there is no question of it if you care to let facts influence your thinking.

one more time with clarity for the gore impaired
now I was ground zero in WPB during the entire episode. The hanging dimpled WTF even though there was no evidence of any mark for a presidential candidate (like my own ballot) was being counted as a gore vote by the Broward Election Commision.
This pissed off the heavily republican legislature who convened a special session to select the electoral college if Gore attempted to win by recounts.
The Gore campaign tried to reject all US servicemen absentee ballots and filed suit to not allow then to be counted.
The state legislature if they selected their own electors (remember in case you forgot popular vote doesnt count in presidential elections)
Constitution sez the electors will be selected by the states, federal law doesnt apply.
Now any democrat could challenge the florida electors and the republicans were set on challenging the New Mexico electors if this happened.
That would provide no majority so the constitution kicks in.
The congress would select a president and vice president and send that choice to the senate which would either accept or reject the choice. Since the Congress was heavily republican that means bush/cheney gets forwarded to the senate. A slim republican majority would have guarrantied a win because the ballot shenanigans of both sides were extremely egregous in florida so party line would prevail.
Now the USSC didnt need to step in at all as Bush would have won anyway and the constitution would have been better off.
Now it seems about every 18 months I have to remind you of this, could you just bookmark this link under legal reasons Gore could never have been president. thank you, Bill

I thought you said clarity.
The word has some meaning after all.
Take some time to... Step 1. Insure you spell things correctly. Step 2. Use complete sentences. Step 3. Use actual punctuation. Step 4. Use capital letters where appropriate.

Capitals and periods yes, "complete" sentences, hardly...
Fucking weird ones, anyway. Here's the second one: The hanging dimpled WTF even though there was no evidence of any mark for a presidential candidate (like my own ballot) was being counted as a gore vote by the Broward Election Commision. Now WHAT THE _F_U_C_K_ does that mean?!? The "hanging dimpled ..." WHAT was it that "was being counted as a gore vote"? The whole fucking sentence is only missing one of the two things that MAKE a bunch of words a sentence in the first place, namely a subject. That's what they call "complete" around where you live? And I wouldn't boast too much about my swanky capitalization, either, if I were you -- not as long as the screed is full of references to some "gore".

A) Was that word there? B) Grammar 1/2-OK, facts wrong:
For one thing, it weren't "CHAD 2 FSCKING YEARS OF HANGING, DIMPLED UNTOUCHED CHADS" that were *counted* -- "counted" being the predicate (or verb, to [over-]simplify) of the sentence, but *ballots*.
Don't brag about your purported ability to write clear and correct English until you've actually shown you can do it.

You saying it is a FACT that CHADS were counted?
That's FACTUALLY WRONG; it is BALLOTS -- each of which can have zero, one, or more "chads" -- "hanging", "dimpled", "pregnant", or not -- that count in Yank elections. So fuck you, boyo; that WAS A FACT you were wrong on, and I found out. (But yes, the grammar in that sentence was so egregious that it was even worse.)
And actually, Boxster, I've TRIED several times to compose a post refuting all the other lies and truth-twistings in your original post... But I get so incredibly PISSED OFF every time I start, that in order to avoid a frigging heart attack, I've had to abandon it every time.
But, hey, why don't *you* start by responding to the "Minor Nit" -- not so minor at all, really, but a crushing refutation of that particular point of yours -- that "Simon Jester" posted?
Otherwise, I'll take it as given that you're conceding that at least on that point, you WERE wrong on the facts.

was my grammer wrong? Probably but my facts were not
and my conclusions were sound based on laws at the time, published reports of what the Florida Legislature was threatening to do and the outcome of any electors from florida voting in any manner. Dem's were going to challenge the electors if the Florida Legislature sent them and repos were going to challenge the Florida electors if a judge stated the recounts were for Gore.
In either case, the election would have went to the congress who were republican.
Now put that into your copenhagen can and masticate it.
Please also keep in mind that I have never voted for Bush, 41, 43 or Jeb so I am speaking impartially here. thanx, bill

The Gore campaign tried to reject all US servicemen absentee ballots and filed suit to not allow then to be counted.
The Gore campaign tried to reject all US servicemen's absentee ballots that did not have postmarks. Military law requires postmarks on all mail going through the postal system. There still has not be a full investigation on why there was military mail without a postmark. Note: Civilian mail without a postmark would be rejected.

NYTimes corrections to Krugman column.
[link|http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001220139|Editor and Publisher] on NYTimes editorial corrections (via Drudge): Collins also announced that the paper would henceforth be running regular corrections and "for the record" explanations under the Times' editorials. Today [October 1, 2005] she published several in the "for the record" category. One notes that Krugman, Maureen Dowd and Frank Rich all incorrectly stated that former FEMA director Michael Brown went to college with his predecessor Joe Allbaugh. Another corrects where Mick Jagger made a certain statement about economics.
And here is what one hopes is the final word on that Krugman column, in the Sunday correction:
"In describing the results of the ballot study by the group led by The Miami Herald in his column of Aug. 26, Paul Krugman relied on the Herald report, which listed only three hypothetical statewide recounts, two of which went to Al Gore. There was, however, a fourth recount, which would have gone to George W. Bush. In this case, the two stricter-standard recounts went to Mr. Bush. A later study, by a group that included The New York Times, used two methods to count ballots: relying on the judgment of a majority of those examining each ballot, or requiring unanimity. Mr. Gore lost one hypothetical recount on the unanimity basis." FWIW. Cheers, Scott.
