Would someone please help with a math problem?
I go to the doctor in a little over an hour, and I am trying to average out some numbers and don't know how.
John was going to do this, but we got home late and he had to go to bed, so I'm "punting" so to speak. I think I'm doing it wrong, because I'm getting ridiculous amounts.
The math problem is: I need the average minutes per day using mouse with the number of minutes on mouse being 1140 and the number of days being the standard 7 of a week.
and I need the average minutes per day typing with the number of hours typing being 691 and the number of days being the standard 7 of a week.
John said to add up the minutes and divide by number of days, but I keep getting amounts like 19 hrs a day, or 14 hours a day, which can't be right, cause I'm not even awake that many hours a day most of the time.
If someone could please do these two problems for me before I leave at 12:30 p.m. today I would be ever grateful.
Thanks

More input needed
Over what timeframe is the 1140 and 691 minutes recorded? Was that 1140 minutes of mouse usage in a week and 691 minutes of keyboard usage in a week?

Re: More input needed

Yes, the 1140 is mouse use since August 1st and ending at August 7th, and the 691 is keyboard use since August 1st and ending at August 7th. Does that help? Brenda

Re: More input needed
Yup.
Average use per day, then, is the number minutes used in the week divided by the number of days, so:
Mouse: 1140/7 = 162.86 minutes, or 2 hrs 42.86 mins average per day Keyboard: 691/7 = 98.71 minutes, or 1 hour 38.71 average per day

Chris also did it, and you match. I was initially using the number of 1180 mouse hours from August 1 to August 10th, I got 118 mouse hours in those 10 days, and then I divided by 9 and got 19. Now I see where I went wrong, first the 10 days was too much for a week, I needed to stop at the 7th. Second, I think I had the 19 right but I was thinking it was hours, not minutes and I knew if overall usage averaged to 7 hrs a day, mouse would not be able to be 19. Then after that, my logic failed. Thanks again Brenda

Requires differential equations and category theory
1140 / 7 ~= 162 minutes per day ~= 2.7 hours per day
691 / 7 ~= 98 minutes per day ~= 1.7 hours per day

Re: Requires differential equations and category theory
1140 / 7 ~= 162 minutes per day ~= 2.7 hours per day 691 / 7 ~= 98 minutes per day ~= 1.7 hours per day Thank you so much. I knew it simply could NOT be 19 hrs a day, when the overall usage of computer use was 7 hours a day, mouse use HAD to be smaller. Much appreciated. Brenda Edit: P.S. I see where I went wrong. I was getting amount of MINUTES a day when I did the average, not the amount of hours... I needed to take the amount I got which was minutes and convert it back to hours. GRRRRRRR I HATE MATH. Ah well. All done, now I write it up and go see the dr. Whew. Brenda
