Unfortunately, dying meaning the death of innocence, though a better meaning, is a fabrication. All the translations are just variations of "you will surely die". None of the surrounding context suggests this was referring to innocence. By default, dying means death of the physical body and end of existence. It is incorrect to invent a less nonsensical meaning and then claim the bible isn't so nonsensical after all.
Also, in the story of adam and eve, satan is simply not mentioned, even though satan possessing an animal would be an unusual and noteworthy event. Unless you wish to assert that animal possessions are widely known events and do not need to be stated. I previously thought satan was possessing the serpent but that interpretation lacks any basis in the text, so it must be a fabrication. An invention to hide the nonsense of talking animals.
This is like saying the biblical flood is based on previous, flood superstitions. Probably true but no amount of explanation and correction alters that it, as written, is laughable. If a book cannot stand up on its own, it is not a reliable source.
With poor character and background descriptions, the story of adam and eve even sucks as a work of fiction.
