If memory serves me correct.
Oracle keeps something like three rotating transaction logs active. These are likely either active transaction logs or ones that have been saved off at a previous point in time.
Of course, you could just delete 'em and find out if they're necessary. :-)

well I guess I know what Ill be doing the rest of the day
yup Oracle needs them and the control file that lives in that directory, no all I have to do is figure out the sysdba password for this system and rebuild the control files. blech thanx bill

no problem, I needed to knock it down any way
at least my disks are not filling up. I wouldnt do that in a test or prod box but this one is mine. thanx, bill
