Welcome to IWETHEY!

New TORA! TORA! TORA!
It's here, oh joy! Oh rapture!

Installation is a doddle. Seriously. I've never met an installer as simple to use as this. Fifteen minutes or so for an "Archive & Install/Preserve users" installation.

Applications work after installation! Coo!

Minor hurdles: I had to make use of my emergency Firewire connection to the PC to install the Stuffit Expander, so that I could reinstall my third-party wireless NIC driver. Which, magically, remembered its registration info. Score!

I also had to upgrade GPGMail to the version that supports 10.4 (that's 1.1, folks).

Is it faster? Well, I think so. Safari definitely seems snappier.

I like the new Mail. Getting rid of the drawer with the folder list in it is a definite step forward.

I've got Jabber working in iChat, neener neener[0].

Dashboard is pretty, and nifty. How much I'll use it remains to be seen.

New I found it necessary to dig into "optional packages" for X11
The app was installed, but for some reason the libraries weren't and the app crashed on launch. 3 minutes with the installer and it works fine now.

New Jabber in iChat

I managed to get to the main Jabber server, but I'm not sure how to set up a connection to the IWETHEY conference room.

Any tips?

Join a chat room, choose Jabber from the dropdown, ziwt@conference.iwethey.org

New Saw you pop in and out.
You gotta stick around longer if you expect to chat. Typically people sit around in there and check it every 5-10 minutes (or even longer later at night) to see if anyone is saying something. If you pop in and sit, someone will eventually say 'hi'.

New I know. Just testing

Besides, I had to make dinner.

Tomorrow I'm going to see if I can get through the firewall at school.
