Anyone in Phoenix?
Well it looks like I'm going to be taking a job in Phoenix and having the fun of moving across the US. Anyone there or lived there in the past? At the start of the year, if anyone had told me I'd take a job out west I'd have laughed at them for thinking I'd move so far.
But here I am, setting everything in motion to head to the desert. At least I won't have to take care of grass anymore. 8p

Just trim the cactus and sage brush.
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail ... but, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying, "Damn...that was fun!"

I like the desert
and have been to Phoenix many times. Its different - but pretty cool. Summers are pretty brutal though - get a house with a pool.

pool would be nice
My wife is certainly pushing for a pool. It'd be nice, but we'll just have to see if it'll push the price up too much.
I've lived in Florida so I know the "fun" of humid heat. Appearently I'm masichistic enough to want to find out what dry heat is really like.
At least I'll have an excuse to go see the Grand Canyon since it'll be so close.

Our Grand Canyon story.
My wife was in Phoenix for a conference in late September (IIRC). I went with her so we could spend a few days vacation seeing the Grand Canyon.
Her conference was fine (sunny, 70s-80s), and when we left Phoenix the weather at the Canyon was "cloudy and temperatures in the 60s". By the time we got up there a few hours later, it was in the 30s and snowing.
We saw the Canyon for about 5 minutes before the clouds dropped in and filled it up. That's all we saw of it, even when we hiked down some in the rain/snow.
:-(
The next day was the same, with the forecast for the rest of the time being as bad or worse. So after a day we drove down to Sedona and hiked around there. It's pretty country.
Luck!
Cheers, Scott.

Lived in Glendale for a couple years
and the folks are a touch down I-10 from there.
Don't drive a black car. Make sure you have enough air conditioning and try and stay out of downtown in mid-afternoon in July/August.
Dry heat my ass.

Hope you don't have allergies
The pollen is brutal this year according to some friends living there.

Its very funny...
...that the climate that convinced people to go out and get away from pollen and allergies has now become so bad. Everybody took out and/or planted the crap that they were allergic to when they went out there. Early summer (March April May) is brutal.
I say early summer because there is no winter...making "spring" December-February. By March the temp is popping to the 90s and its planted over 100 firmly by May

It's worse this year
Much higher than average rainfall has caused the deserts to bloom. Pretty but sneezy.

In my many visits....
I've never had a chance to see anything like that. It had to be very pretty.
