Actually 'ssh -X' takes care of DISPLAY value
as well as setting xauth cookie.
You just have to make sure the X server is installed and running.

Probably just need to run it before doing ssh -X
I think you'll find it under Utilities.

X11
Need to kick off the X11 server or the ssh -X won't have anything to connect to on your system.

>open /Applications/Utilities/X11.app
or whatever it is really called.

Maybe I'm just too dumb to use a Mac.
I have nothing that looks like what you are pointing to.

That was a command line command
of course, you'd need to be running Terminal.app
Another way - in a file viewer window you'll find Applications as a top level item, inside that is Utilities, inside that are a bunch of programs. One is called Terminal, and another should be called X11 (I think - don't have a mac handy just now).
Your install is likely fine - however X11 is an optional package install on the CD's (if using panther). If Tiger, install is from on DVD (hooray!).

I followed the GUI path and did not see it
The 1st thing I did was to figure out how to get Terminal on the Docker. I then "ssh -X" to another system, and had gvim fail on the unable to open the window.
This seems to be a partial install of stuff, so I'll redo it in a couple of days when my boss is back with the disks.

OK, I can't trust the "install" on this box.
I'll nuke and pave on Wednesday, and start fresh.
