Living in the UK, I have to assume this Pat Robertson does not hold office and is merely some voiciferous, religious nutter. And people watch him because it's like watching a train crash. So didn't end up doing very well directly, but he did get the Republicans to give in to the right wing Christians a lot more and thus indirectly did a lot of damage. In any case he is not just any run of the mill religious nut job. He runs the CBN, Christian Broadcasting Network, which is best known for the 700 Club and broadcasts right wing Christian material around the globe. He also made a personal fortune in various shady dealings. Jay
