Colbert King OpEd in Washington Post.
[link|http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A10688-2005Apr22.html|Hijacking Christianity . . .] from 4/22: [...] Americans of faith -- and those lacking one -- ought to vigorously resist attempts by power-hungry zealots to impose their religious views on the nation. That means standing up to them at every turn.
It means challenging them when they say of Americans who support a woman's right to choose; the right of two adults to enter into a loving, committed, state-sanctioned, monogamous relationship; the right to pursue science in support of life; the right of the aggrieved to launch aggressive assaults against racism, sexism and homophobia, that they are not legitimate members of the flock. Where do those on the religious right get off thinking they have the right to decide who is in and who is out? Who appointed them sole promoters and defenders of the faith? What makes them think they are more holy and righteous than the rest of us?
They are not now and never will be the final arbiters of Christian beliefs and values. They warrant as much deference as religious leaders as do members of the Ku Klux Klan, who also marched under the cross.
They should be resisted, not pandered to by politicians. [...] Well said. Cheers, Scott.

I cannot impose my personal religious beliefs on a population who has contradictory beliefs. when abortion becomes illegal only abortionists will own coat hangers. thanx, bill who is not an abortionist but doesnt want to be arrested for possesion.

Ya know, box...
The oracle at Delphi was regarded as profound, even though her utterances were as impenetrable as yours, because they were relatively infrequent.
If the oracle had spewed a dozen incoherent observations a day, as you have these past four years, the perception would have shifted from "profound" to "gibberish."
Can't you make an effort to be either less self-indulgently obscure or less prolific?
cordially,

yabbut...
Unlike the bot (with whom we seem to have arrived at a delightful détente—he imagines that we are reduced to glum silence by the demoralizing force of his unassailable arguments; we grin as, having pissed in his usual fortnightly corner, he wanders off besotted with visions of one day being universally acknowledged as the foremost polemicist of his era: everybody wins), you have something intelligent to say now and again. Sometimes your remarks are intelligent and coherent. But geez, if we could do something about the dross-to-gold ratio...

I find box's non sequiturs as entertaining
...as the next guy, but they tend to be so self-contained that they can stop a formerly fecund thread quite dead. The Venerable Ash can certainly be as obscure when it suits Him, but His utterances are seldom as sterile, response-wise, as Florida's Finest. Check the record if you don't believe me.

Well, some of the 'fecund threads' around here . . .
. . . need stopping.
