New Re: according to www.radiator.com
You :\tlooking for afriend in St Louis Missouri, the price she is getting locally is $700 installed, Ill have her call you.

Okay, you are driving a classic but here is another question, how big is the leak and can you reach it with your hands? Is it on a seam?

Wow Boxley, thanks for taking the trouble with this. I'm sorry I didn't see this last night, but even if I had, I didn't have the answers for his questions. I don't know how big the leak was, only how big the leak spot was on the garage floor after just warming up the car Sat morning. And I don't know if you could reach it with your hands, but I saw it dripping on the concrete by watching.

Please let them know at radiator.com that I appreciate them trying to help, but it's now been handled.

New I doubt it was that small.
Re: well owl, a smallleak you can reach is about $7.00 to fix.

From what I understand, it was "leaking pretty good in multiple places" when it leaked, according to my mechanic.

All I know for sure is that when it first leaked, it put out a leak about 8 inches long and 3 inches wide in less than five minutes.

New at 15lbs psi when the motor is running
and you have 2 galons of liquid and a hole that is smaller than a silver dollar you can heal it for less than $7.00. Next time you are in the autoparts place ask to look for their gastank and radiator stop leak putty. It will look like 2 strips of clay, one grey one black that when you knead them together then apply a cone shape to the hole, will harden to the strength of steel. Now its not a total cure as an old radiator needs eventual replacing, I think you are getting hosed on the labor but that warranty is worth that. You are the type to keep the car at all reasonable cost. Now the same stuff works on gas tanks, and replacing a gas tank is lots more expensive than a radiator. So keep it in mind, fix the immediate need and save up for the real repairs.
thanx,
bill

New I've heard of that stuff :)
Someone (one of my many friend mechanics who are no longer available), used that sort of stuff to patch my power steering pump. It was actually at the base of the pump chimney. It's held ever since and that was years ago.

I'm only paying $110.00 labor, I don't consider that all that much, but then after years of paying $30.00 labor or such to friends (because that's all they asked for most of the time), I guess it is a lot. But yeah, I think the warranty was what sold John on the Dobbs choice. At this rate my whole car will soon have a lifetime warranty from Dobbs, (other than the body, that is). ;)

I think in this case, since it was really really old, was repaired once and was nearly shot, (the fins were all bad, there were multiple leaks), patching it would not have done much. It would have probably sprung a new leak next week.

But I agree, that stuff is pretty awesome, and man does it ever solidify and hold. My friend called it Miracle metal. ;)
