even if it's stupid, and will further blacken their rep.

The 'Genuine Advantage' comes from disadvantaging those that don't pay, after all. MS is cutting off those that haven't paid a license fee, and don't upgrade 'on schedule'. MS can't be forced to provide service to those that haven't signed up with them, after all.

It's gonna PO a lot of people that have to shell out more cash just to stay current enough to be even marginally safe on the 'Net, though. It will drive them right into the arms of Linus Torvalds and Steve Jobs. Annoying the marks has become part of the 'Microsoft Experience'.

This is a GOOD thing.
