Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Today I am a Proud Papa.
My wife told me about the conversation she had with my daughters yesterday on their way home from school. My 12 year old said that a Special Ed student ( a little girl - call her Mary) was frequently teased by the other kids in her class. Mary has a crush on some actor (name escaped my wife). So, two of the girls in my daughter's class got the telephone number of a little boy in the class and gave it to Mary, telling her that it was the actor's telephone number. My wife and 14 year old commented, "That's awful. That's terribly mean to Mary." A conversation between my 14 year old and my 12 year old then ensued. The result of that conversation (with no input from my wife) was that my two daughters decided to go to the Special Ed teacher today and ask for the names of all the Special Ed students. Then, my daughters will go to the store and spend their allowance on Valentine's cards and candy for each of the Special Ed students.

Every once in a while, my kids do something that makes putting up with all the teen nonsense bearable.

Mikem

Imric's Tips for Living
  • Paranoia Is a Survival Trait
  • Pessimists are never disappointed - but sometimes, if they are very lucky, they can be pleasantly surprised...
  • Even though everyone is out to get you, it doesn't matter unless you let them win.

Nothing is as simple as it seems in the beginning,
As hopeless as it seems in the middle,
Or as finished as it seems in the end.

New good doins
I love her dearly, far beyond any creature I've ever known, and I can prove it, for never once in almost seventy years of married life have I taken her by the throat. Mind you, it's been a near thing once or twice.

New Great! Also, please ask your daughters...
...to beat up those two girls who did that phone number stunt.

Your lies are of Microsoftian Scale and boring to boot. Your 'depression' may be the closest you ever come to recognizing truth: you have no 'inferiority complex', you are inferior - and something inside you recognizes this. - [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/content/show?contentid=71575|Ashton Brown]

New That's good!
I have come to believe that idealism without discipline is a quick road to disaster, while discipline without idealism is pointless. -- Aaron Ward (my brother)
New Somedays, it's all worth it....
paraphrased from a speech in the movie "Scent of a Woman"

..."You hold this girl's future in your hands, (parents). It's a valuable future. Believe me. Don't destroy it! Protect it. Embrace it. It's gonna make ya proud one day -- I promise you."

If your daughters are acting like this, you've been a superb parent. You deserve to be proud.

New Thanks. But the credit's all theirs, not mine ;0)

shrub\ufffdbish (Am., from shrub + rubbish, after the derisive name for America's 43 president; 2003) n. 1. a form of nonsensical political doubletalk wherein the speaker attempts to defend the indefensible by lying, obfuscation, or otherwise misstating the facts; GIBBERISH. 2. any of a collection of utterances from America's putative 43rd president. cf. BULLSHIT

New Excellent! And a nice reflection of Papa.

New Full marks, too for -
(her) saying, "that's awful!"
and not... that's .. like .. awful!

:-\ufffd

Note too, that a regular comic in the paper has taken on the prevailing attitude of the school masses towards Special Ed kids. Lynn Johnston, For Better or Worse. Hmmm - maybe yours have been reading that recent sequence?

IMO one of her strips is usually more sentient than any whole day of commercial 'children shows'/ marketing fillers. She regularly takes on ethical issues as ~ whether [and How ??] to report a fellow worker stealing from employer.

(As-if the FCC were ever actually holding any of these broadcasters to their contract (for all that free public bandwidth) to provide anything like intelligent children's content.))

Underscores -- if'n ya want al punte political or social commentary in any meeja: the Comics is where to look first. 'Course ya still gots to fight to keep Zippy over treacly Family Circus. (We lost that one in SF Chron)
