Welcome to IWETHEY!

New This is curious
and I've run Ad-Aware, Spybot and Grisoft AVG just to make sure.

I opened the Recycle Bin, and it physically shows 15 files...however, the file count says I have 85 files in the bin. So how come I can't see the other 70 files?

Ideas?

New 70 of em aren't owned by you?
Owned by something like System or similar.

No matter how much Microsoft supporters whine about how Linux and other operating systems have just as many bugs as their operating systems do, the bottom line is that the serious, gut-wrenching problems happen on Windows, not on Linux, not on Mac OS. -- [link|http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1622086,00.asp|source]
New Are they .dll and other hidden filetypes?
The first thing that I do on Windows is have it show me all filetypes. But the default is to hide several filetypes, which can lead to confusion exactly like you're seeing.

Cheers,
Ben

New Get MS Antispyware.
It's actually good.

GIYF.

Use P2P for legitimate purposes!
New Are any of them folders?
Could be items contained in a folder...
"Here at Ortillery Command we have at our disposal hundred megawatt laser beams, mach 20 titanium rods and guided thermonuclear bombs. Some people say we think that we're God. We're not God. We just borrowed his 'SMITE' button for our fire control system."
New Don't know if it's related . . .
. . but VX2 aparently damges the recycle folder so some files don't show, and other programs might also. As I recall, the quick fix was to delete the desktop.ini file in the recycler folder (invisible, but it's there) then rebooting the computer.

New Another option on by default is
to hide "system" files.

New Show me everything
is turned on (old habit).

Tried to view the files in the Recycle bin under a DOS "dir" command - nothing shows.

I don't know what these files are, and I don't want to empty the Recycle Bin until I know what they are.

New did ya try
the attrib -sh *.* to convert all file to normal? May have hidden and system files.

New Yep - no change in the Recycle Bin display
I'm not going to empty that sucker until I get a handle on what's in there ands why I can't see them.

New Norton Utilites used to have
low-level directory editor. Nowadays it's probably not available, what with NTFS and such. How about booting Knoppix (or whatever the botable CD du jour is good) and looking at it that way?

New I find ZTree can see most stuff . .
. . including stuff Windows refuses to show. You can download ZTree Windows for free trial (its nag screen stays longer and longer as time goes by).

New Wish I had a Knoppix CD
to use. Maybe someday...

New Email sent
now I'll sit back and wait for you to provide my salvation. Damn Recycle Bin has to be manually cleaned out to remove the visible detritus, but it says that the hidden stuff is still there.

New There's another possibility
that is, that the recycle bin really has 15 files in it, and that in fact it's the counter that's wrong. For example, I can't help but notice that 85 is 15*7.

Worth exploring, at any rate. If it was warp, I'd just tell you to blow away the key in the ini file for the trash can, and let it rebuild it on next boot by actually looking at the file system, but that's not going to work here...
