[link\|http://www.bearshare.com\|BearShare] is based on [link\|http://www.gnutellanews.com/information/what_is_gnutella.shtml\|GNUTella], a Napster-like sharing application, only it shares other things too like files. I kept getting a lot of network timeouts and lack of network space errors and got disconnected from the servers a lot. So that means those 600M+ ISO files on Red Hat 7.2 are almost impossible to download on my DSL via BearShare. Cute interface and name. Poor service. I guess maybe I need to find a [link\|http://www.hostscache.com/gnutella/\|GNUTella] server that isn't swamped with MP3/WAREZ pirates? *Picking up the pieces of my broken life.*
Post #19,271 by Norjak 11/24/01 12:16:06 AM Reply	Bearshit The servers are the problem, they are overworked. Plus too many MP3 hogs from AOL and other service are gumming up the works. Maybe you IWETHEY admins can run you own GNUTELLA server?

Subject came up recently on Steve Gibson's site a little bit back - apparently, in order to make a little $$$, the makers of Limewire threw in a tracebot that tracks what you do/where you go... Post #19,673 by JCB 11/28/01 5:40:52 PM Reply	Re: Bearshare Gnutella isn't the most reliable network out there, I have no clue about your networks errors, but the server disconnects are just something you're going to have to deal with, most people don't care you're downloading when they shut down their computers. Gnutella is useless unless you're looking for MP3s/P0rn/WaRez, and I wouldn't download any kind of software from it. For all anyone knows, it could have a trojan in it. Besides, going to Redhat's ftp site would be much more reliable.
