New Anyone hear of or play with Chandler?
High hopes for a PIM

Wanted to see if anyone knew about this before I put it on a box

New I was under the impression...
...that it was still under heavy development--not worth installing yet (unless you want to help develop it). But I could be wrong. Ted Leung's been working on it for a while ([link|http://www.sauria.com/blog|http://www.sauria.com/blog]) A recent comment which makes me continue to think so:

As far as Chandler goes, we have a UI spec for the Calendar work we are doing for our 0.5 release (sometime in March). I'm not intimately involved with the calendaring stuff, so reading the spec is the best way to judge whether there will be something new for users there.
New Yet another e-mail program too?
I've only glanced at the wiki, but I wonder why they feel the need for yet another e-mail program too.

I assume you're aware of the plans for [link|http://wiki.mozilla.org/index.php/Calendar:Lightning|Lightning] from Mozilla.

Any PIM for me would have to work with my Palm OS device (Sony Clie). I trust they've looked at DateBk5. I assume that as LCD displays get cheaper that even more portable PCs with more capabilities are coming. People are going to want to carry their calendars with them - I think that means PalmOS and/or WinCE support is needed in the fairly near term.

It might be a great improvement for large organizations, but I wonder if they're showing up too late at the table. What's appealing about it for you?

Let us know how it goes!

Cheers,
Scott.
New Newsforge article on calendars.

Cheers,
Scott.
