I don't know. If the US had imprisoned me for three years without charge, trial, the opportunity to speak to a lawyer or see or talk to my family, I'd guess that alone might be enough to turn me into an anti-US insurgent/terrorist.
It's amazing how often we end up getting the exact opposite of what we seek.
