New Vespetro - Swedish Angelica Liqueur
I just had about a teaspoon in a cup of coffee. Wow, that stuff is good. I didn't know it was in there, else I'd have refrained. I smelled it first and was told it was flavored coffee. I was surprised when it had a bit of alcohol bite in it. I drank the whole cup though. The company owner had a friend from Sweden here, still don't know his name. I had to laugh he sounded alot like [link|http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=xx-bork|the Muppets Swedish Chef], though much more understandable.

Ingredients:
  • 2oz. - angelica seeds
  • 1/4oz. - anise seeds
  • 1/4oz. - fennel seeds
  • 1/4oz.(minus a small pinch) - coriander seeds (approximate)
  • 8oz. - of a colorless/flavorless spirits like Vodka (Vodka is best, it has little flavor) (Do not use rubbing alcohol... Deadly)
  • 1# - fine sugar (he clarified it as "inbetween" Granulated and Powderd)
  • 40 fl.oz. - purified water (to remove any contaminants for flavor)
Directions:
  1. Grind the seeds together. Use a seed mill, that will make it much easier to do the job. Or a mortar and pestle if you are so inclined, pulverize them into fine-fine powder.
  2. Have the bottle holding the spirits open, Add the finely crushed/pulverized/blended seeds to the vodka (using a paper funnel)
  3. Close the bottle tightly.
  4. Mix by shaking it vigorously for about 3 minutes. (The three minutes was stressed to me)
  5. Allow the mixture to stand in a warm place for 8 days. Shaking it every time you think about it, for about 3 minutes each time (again stressed to, about the 3 minutes)
  6. After 8 days of shaking and standing, strain the mixture through a cheesecloth bag, twisting well to extract as much as possible.
  7. Dissolve the sugar in the water, by stirring using no heat.
  8. Blend in the flavored spirits
  9. Bottle and Close/Cork lightly. (Cork was reccomended)
I was given this recipe from memory, so I hope the recipe is right. He wasn't sure exactly... as he uses the palm of his hand for the measuring.

He suggests 1 teaspoon of Vespetro in the morning in a drink, and once again at dinner.

From what I tasted, I'll bet it is really good straight.

Q. I think I need to see a specialist, but my doctor insists he can handle my problem. Can a general practitioner really perform a heart transplant right in his/her office?
A. Hard to say, but considering that all you're risking is the $20 co-payment, there's no harm in giving it a shot.
