Welcome to IWETHEY!

New We won't see a repeat of 9/11
exactly for the reason you describe. Flight crews (and passengers) won't tolerate it again.

The days of hijacking an aircraft (for any reason) are over.

However, the screening are necessary. We should be following the Israel airline's security model. The next step for terrorists is to smuggle a bomb on the aircraft and blow it up.
New The problem with that is that 9/11 raised the bar.
Blow up a plane? You'll only get 100-300 people, plus whoever is underneath when it goes off. Yeah, it will piss people off, but it won't have the same emotional impact as watching the videos of those two planes plunging into the WTC.

I'm waiting for the first mass cargo plane hijacking.
"Here at Ortillery Command we have at our disposal hundred megawatt laser beams, mach 20 titanium rods and guided thermonuclear bombs. Some people say we think that we're God. We're not God. We just borrowed his 'SMITE' button for our fire control system."
New Cargo planes? No, no. It's us bad old GA pilots next.
Just ask the pinheads at TSA & DHS. It'd be a hell of a lot worse for us if it wasn't for AOPA. But I hear enough from the old timers about how it used to be to know that we've lost a lot of ground already. Hell, we've lost ground in the short time I've been flying (3 years). One of the flight instructors at my local airport is fond of saying, "You know? I bet you won't believe this, but I actually remember when this was a free country."

More to come I'm afraid and worse, it's what the majority of Sheeple want.

New I don't see why - most of GA fleet lacks capacity
to do real damage. A 182 loaded with all the fuel and dynamite it can drag off the ground would have only wrecked a couple suites in the WTC.

"The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them."     --Albert Einstein

"This is still a dangerous world. It's a world of madmen and uncertainty and potential mental losses."     --George W. Bush
New Xactly.
But you'd never know that based on DHS/TSA policies, would you? I mean, hell, look at the new requirements for turning CFI's at small country airports into de facto Immigration agents? And immediately post-9/11, GA was grounded longer than either commercial or cargo traffic.

Just take a look at the idiotic ADIZ or any of the plethora of "Temporary" flight restricted areas for GA in place now for over three years.
