New Wish Ross would drop in..
even though this is about more than physics notation.

Splendid essay; from a book I see I must get.

What he says here is what I wish I'd connected - though equally ignorant of the authentic friendship of these two Actual \ufffdbermensch.

I believe that, essays such as this are ~ as close as we ever get in ordinary language, to Metaphysics beyond 101. The time conundrum is illustrated in such similes as, say Eternity.. is not "a long long long time"; it is the absence of time. Jelloware never can Get this concept. Well, hardly ever.

And that is where epistemology itself runs right into -->| "the lower cannot see the higher" and the inapplicability of logic/language, 'where'-ever there can be no common [referent] to a 'matter' which exists only in ineffable-space [I made that up].

As to Palle Yourgrau, how's [link|http://www.brandeis.edu/departments/philosophy/palle.html| this!] for a CV? Absurd that he be an 'Associate' Professor. When I'm elected dictator -

Thanks! Arkadiy for your find. Great Solstice present, fershure. Ranks right up there with any new Nakariakov Cee Dee as might happen, when we have been very Good and also patient.

I so rarely see anything from the Western mindset nearly as useful as this small excerpt from, apparently, A World Without Time: The Forgotten Legacy of G\ufffddel and Einstein. I may have to go through his whole list, if the rest of the new book is as insightful. How Nice that he's still alive... maybe sometime - -
New Heartily concur about Ross
(and the fact that he has not answered this one tells me that he is not even lurking :( ).

As to actually understanding this stuff - my only hope is to get it at mystical level, and I am not well equiped for that. People who come to such ideas from the logical and physical perspective are utterly beyond this world. What have we done to deserve those two? I have no idea.

Q. I think I need to see a specialist, but my doctor insists he can handle my problem. Can a general practitioner really perform a heart transplant right in his/her office?
A. Hard to say, but considering that all you're risking is the $20 co-payment, there's no harm in giving it a shot.

New Heh 'deserve'
What we 'deserve'.. is, apparently: universal Windoze :(

Know whatcha mean re the 'process' - best I have ever been able to find [because each er Sage never fails to Say So, explicitly] - there *IS* no process! And that idea alone, is enough to piss off a huge variety of folks who Believe differently, about there being a process for everything; just find the algorithm. Right.

'Mystical', like most words hinting ~ that, say, causality just might be a chimera? ;-) become pretty loaded. But yes, it appears (to me, a near-certainty) that it's an inward exploration. Period.
ie there's 'real'ly Nothing 'outside'.
Well, you see the problem with wherever That might --> go. Love. It.

As to Ross.. I've been around a pretty huge variety of science folk, since the beginning. V. few have I noticed possessing anywhere near the imaginitive associations of Our ex-Ross; in fact, I'd have supposed that, for the evident depth of his involvement with the math of physical models: he'd be highly unapt ever to umm grok to Fullness.

Another logical hypothesis ruined.
