just got a 1992 Mercury Cougar 58K miles
for the step daughter (note to self, next time ask if they have any money before looking at cars) body showroom clean. Interior perfect all electronics work. Car steers a straight line but a little slop in the steering. When I stomp the pedal then take my foot off the accelerator it is 1/2 second before accelerator backs off. It also sounds like a small vacuum leak is happening when stomping on it. Sucking sound. 3.2 litre engine, missing a little brake fluid. Will inspect steering gear and brakes tomorrow. Anyone know of any gotchas with these things? Paid $2900 for it.

Look for a 'club'
- dunno if they garnered enough appeal to generate one, but..
My Model did.. 1000+ members for an arcane model sold only 3 yrs. in the US, but also in other countries - and 'different', thus apparently Interesting-enough.
(Club seems to contain ~ 3% of total # imported. That may be some kind of record, as it beats out Mercedes and BMW #s). All the Answers are there, under FAQs and 'Timely Topics'.. to cover ~ 90% of what happens over (in my case - the 300K mile expected lifetime). Also, what to check on -- which was I believe, your query.
cf. [link|http://www.uk-classic-cars.com/cougar.htm|http://www.uk-classi...rs.com/cougar.htm] [link|http://www.cougarclub.org/|http://www.cougarclub.org/]
So.. apparently there are Lots under 'Mercury Cougar club'. At 58K, unless previous owner never did maintenance, should be good for another 100K, if the transmission isn't like some other recent Detroit stuff.
Bon appetit

Looks rust-free.
Appears to have a wheel at each corner.
Lid seems to be on.
I dub it roadworthy!

Seems reasonable-ish
It's a low-miler for such an old car; I think for that kind of money I'd want to see FSH. I'd also expect all the toys (CD/AC/etc) and for them to be functional.

Looks good.
Would check teh vac assembly if you can hear the hiss. Easily replaceable on your own.

Aha, the pre-6-series Thunderbird!
In its Ford guise (minus the "waterfall" grille, basically), that body got a lot of praise in the press back in the eighties when it was new. Yours must be one of the last years of the model, before it was replaced by one where the C-pillar was sloped a little flatter, a virtual copy of the old BMW six-series from the seventies (and the last T-Bird before the retro-fifties-style body).
[Edit: Fixed typo, added parenthetical remark.]
