As President Bush has torn up or ignored many international treaties and efforts, such as the Geneva Convention, Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, Kyoto Treaty, International Criminal Tribunal and the UN Security Council, what will be next to protect US interests?
My prediction is the World Trade Organisation. A market, regulatory system already subject to diplomatic arm twisting by the US (and Europeans), the US won't even bother paying lip service to fairness and ignore it completely. At that point, don't ever mention fair or equitable trading (or [link|http://www.fairtrade.org.uk|The Fairtrade Foundation]), because you'll be 'attacking American jobs'. Commodity exporting, third-world countries will sink further into poverty. Yet more resentment of the US. We'll also see the spectacle of the NGOs, who criticise the WTO, make a volte-face to try and save it.
