This is basically the result of "gravito-magnetism", which has nothing to do with magnets, rather with those aspects of the gravitational field that are analogous to the magnetic field in the theory of light. A rotating body sort of pulls the surrounding spacetime around with it, like an eggbeater in cake mix.
This is powerful evidence for the geometrical interpretation of gravity - the "background free" formalism vs. the "spin-2 graviton on a background manifold" one. Einstein and Weyl would be pleased.
