Courtesy is not like me?
A couple different people took the time to try to answer my question. Even got some email on it. Now that the problem is solved, I wanted to make sure no one is still wasting time on it.

Vow broken.
You need to explain what *YOU* think the problem is then.
Spit it out. Don't plays these fscking games you are using.
Either PUT or SHUT up.

Re: Vow broken.
I really don't want to respond directly to you, because you freak me out with your uncontrollable rage. I like a spirited discussion, but I don't want to discuss byte-religion with you. Maybe next July.

Then QUIT fscking doing what you are doing.
PUT UP or SHUT UP!

current systems
both with uptimes at 140 days plus (power outage and no battery backup). Both are current to the week.
Amount of time spend keeping them that way...
less time per week than in took to make this post.
That is the difference. There were updates that I would want to make to RH and/or Mandrake that I would just quit on because I didn't fell like finding package foolib10 that happened to be a dependency for the latest instant messenger update.

Re: current systems
Same with SuSE. This isn't a techinical issue. It's a political and a sociological one, if you want to see Linux succeed in the "real" world.

So you'd need a ... policy?

And a ... policy management system?

Hey, Ross.
Call me when SuSE gets one of [link|http://www.debian.org/doc/devel-manuals#policy|these].

How is the system update issue
political and/or sociological?
Its either apt-get blah blah blah or rpm blah blah blah.
apt-get blah blah blah works better. I've tried both.
The fact that Suse and RedHat have decided to put cds in pretty boxes and sell doesn't really much matter to me. I bought RedHat more than once because package management under rpm sucked enough to make upgrading painful.
I don't have that problem anymore. Thats not politics. Thats a solution. In the end..success or failure in the marketplace will be based upon solving problems and ease of use.
In the very end...success or failure in the marketplace for operating systems may very well be irrelevent...as the market is moving towards solutions based pricing.
