The debate
Oh, my god! Bush just now came out unequivocally against...slavery! Well done, Georgie!
Cthulhu for President. Why vote for a lesser evil?

That cracked me up!
And Bush kept repeating himself, with the same things he had said at the first debate.
And did you see how he jumped up and interrupted the moderator and yelled and got angry? Wow!

Give him credit
At least he mentioned a case where the Judges moral desires overrode their legal posistion and produced a horrible case. Of course, he could have easily mentioned another nearly as bad case that was far more current, the one that put him in office.
I havn't seen the entire debate yet, I had to record part of it and go out with my family for dinner. But my perception from the parts I have seen so far is that Bush did better, but Kerry still had a slight edge.

He did menion that case...
Something to the tune of "I want 9 justices that will all vote for me".
Or is that a harbinger of things yet to come?

Some post- death-of-irony irony
(from a postprandial discussion of the code words n'such) There are so Many, but one shall have to suffice.. must save material for '05 and '06 and on.
Prez: We can't expose Muricans to the risk of importing from Canada :-0 ... those [Made-in-USA] foreign drugs !!
Chiron: upset.. after *outsourcing* 1/2 of US production to a UK firm, ie. some o'them foreign drugs ..whose QC standards appear to be somewhat Tighter than those of the [Made-in-USA] group.
Gosh {sniff} now their stock price is changing too :( I think they need a tax break - soon. In \ufffd Sterling? or [whatever works in Caymans]
I'm sure it's all for the children. Nothing to do with Pharmchem + Admin miscegenation. Really.

I was quite happy
when Kerry brough up the reason for Canadian drugs being cheaper: the Govt there buys in bulk, driving the prices down. Finally, some sanity returns to our innane discourse. Before now it was: let's buy our own drugs from others - it's cheaper that way.

Bush shouting down the moderator
was eerily reminiscent of his response towards the UN and world community when he was focused on getting an invasion going.
Struck me as inconsiderate and pushy - the way he always does. Also seemed petulant when called on the carpet for his rush to war.
That was lovely cheese.

Yeah, he wanted to jump on Kerry
And the moderator wasn't having any of it. He stole Bush's indignant retort initiative.

Growing pot is the newest terrorist act?
The one example given for the PATRIOT act's need is a drug bust in upper NY. Or has the scope been expanded when no-one was watching?

Re: Growing pot is the newest terrorist act?
what drug bust in upper NY? He was refering to the paintball arab militia whose case is currently being tossed over prosecutorial misconduct. Wonder why that isnt being publicised. regards, damon

Conversely, the War on Drugs is justification for PATRIOT
In the debate Bush pointed out, correctly, that the techniques being used against terrorists are all techniques used in the war on drugs.
He conveniently omitted the fact that many object to those techniques as an abuse of the Constitution.
Cheers, Ben

We need to cut terrorist funding
by legalizing domestic drug production. That $ will then go towards consumption of US produced luxury goods and that's good for America.
That was lovely cheese.
