New not really linux but cups question
cant add a all in one printer via the mac gui interface to cups. Now after digging in the man page and finding out where the brilliant young minds who took a perfectly good bsd or sys5 solution and de-invented the wheel.

Found the cups.conf and printers.conf and a possible solution/problem.

I have only one USB port that is attached to a hp photosmart 7260 printer, I unhook that printer and hookup the hp psc 1350 all in one. I think cups already see's an entry for that device and doesnt want to add another one.

What are the pitfalls of hand carving these files and restarting cupsd?

daemon
New Did you try the Web interface?

Point your browser to [link|http://localhost:631|http://localhost:631] and click away.

I've found that sometimes it offers more options than the GUI frontend.

Other than that, if you really plan on hand-configuring this, be sure to read the man pages to get a good idea of how the file is laid out and what options are available.

Otherwise, dive right in. (Back up your old files first, of course.)

"While I'm still confused and uncertain, it's on a much higher plane, d'you
see, and at least I know I'm bewildered about the really fundamental and
important facts of the universe."
Treatle nodded. "I hadn't looked at it like that," he said, "But you're
absolutely right. He's really pushed back the boundaries of ignorance."

New You need to...
Edit the admin area of cups.conf to allow connections

Probably the MAC version has everything locked down as most work is done with GUI and command line.

The Web interface is really really useful. Makes it possible to do things that are not possible with command line or GUI, but are possible to hand craft using vi or emacs.

The commit is instant though be careful.

No matter how much Microsoft supporters whine about how Linux and other operating systems have just as many bugs as their operating systems do, the bottom line is that the serious, gut-wrenching problems happen on Windows, not on Linux, not on Mac OS. -- [link|http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1622086,00.asp|source]
