New EVMS vs LVM on Suse
Pros / Cons?
New LVM2 and EVMS on a 2.6 Kernel
EVMS can use LVM2.

LVM2 can use devices provided by EVMS.

Since most of what you'll prolly be using is non-local storage, either one fits well.

One thing though, LVM2 used to be a Sistina thing, acquired by RedHat right now. Isn't a bad thing, can be and is being used in many places right now. [link|http://sources.redhat.com/lvm2/|LVM2 Resource page]. Even better is [link|http://www.redhat.com/software/rha/gfs/|this page] showing the Sistina's whole products setup has been mulled into the Global File System product by RedHat.

LVM2 is definitely being driven by RedHat, in favor of RedHat at the expense of somethings.

On the other hand [link|http://evms.sourceforge.net/|IBM's EVMS] is one v2.4.0 which in essence is 1.4.0, as they threw out everything the 1.x series used and started over from scratch.

I have heard good things about it. I have heard bad things about it. But no more so than LVM2.

All I can say, is choose wisely young hero. My money will be on both of them. All though in the long run, IBM has more ingenuity behind it and probably will succeed better in the arena.

No matter how much Microsoft supporters whine about how Linux and other operating systems have just as many bugs as their operating systems do, the bottom line is that the serious, gut-wrenching problems happen on Windows, not on Linux, not on Mac OS. -- [link|http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1622086,00.asp|source]

New Thanks
I read a bit. I figure I'll play with EVMS for now. What issues have you seen with it?
