Linux and Win backup program needed
I've got a small company with 2 NT servers currently using Arcserve. We are about to go to a mix of Linux and Win2K. I need to setup something that the tech tech can use to confidently backup the 2 systems.
We have Ecrix drives.
I can think of a multi-day cascading rsynch for the Linux box that also goes to tape, but of course that is specific to the Linux box.
Our Arcserve is very old so we need to update no matter what if we stick with it.
We can buy new for a master box with a tape drive and clients, which should then take care of it.
Currently the backup box is also the lead tech's workstation, not a dedicated box. He has been doing it this way for several years, and it has worked. Sigh.
Any other things I should be looking at?

Backup Exec + Linux agent
I know this to work.

Agreed.
But Arekia does work as well.
There is another alternative.
If the place is somewhat competent... if not, not worth the time.

Ummm, Yeah.
I know it works and works well, once you fing3er it properly...
But it is the continuous maint that gets me grumpy about using it for other people.

Arkeia
I tried it and it was great. Native backup for Linux and Windows.

Used to be free for 2 machines.

OK, I put the Arcserv on hold
When the equipment comes in, I'll test some others. Thanks.
