I considered a real copy of XP.

Just to be legal on one of my PCs.

Unfortunately, full-priced copy is AU$600. About ten times too expensive, IMO. Of course, I could probably find it cheaper, but still - if I have to go looking for the discounted copies, it's still too expensive.

Don't plug it into the network.

You'll still have to activate it over the phone, though.

Wade correctly points out that the corporate edition doesn't require activation. This is also true for corporate editions of other Microsoft software.
